Hut Renovations

Hut Renovations

Our Scout hut was originally a tin army supply store, it was gifted to Inverurie Scout Group.

In 1960 the Scout hut required serious renovations, So it was demolished and another on built in its place. This new Scout hut was made of bricks, with a full wooden frame. A solid structure to continue our Scouting.

In 2007 Scouting celebrated 100 years, and Inverurie’s hut was once again in need of some attention. The leaking roof had been causing issues for years and now indoor guttering had been erected to channel the flow of water into a bucket, which needed emptied every evening. There was a large patch of mould growing on the wall where the water, not caught by the guttering, would leak. The hut was constantly freezing cold as the 40 year old insulation did little good.
The toilets were not fit for purpose and the kitchen was disgusting.

The old kitchen, falling apart

The first priority was to fix the roof.
The toilets and kitchen were removed, as was most of the floor under the entrance hall. The tartan room, named so due to the walls having been painted with tartan paint, was also gutted and turned into our brand new Kitchen.

The interior of the hall was next to be overhauled. All of the interior paneling, and roof panels were replaced and insulation put in as well.

The venture room was the last to be finished as it had been the storage room for our decorating equipment.

The floor was sanded and painted, as it is not necessary to replace it at the moment.

The benches were also done up, they had their iron work cleaned and painted Scout purple, and the wood was all replaced and painted bright new colours; red, green, yellow, blue and purple.
